Van điều khiển vận hành bằng thủy lực kiểm soát việc cấp nước và mực nước trong bể chứa. Trong quá trình cấp nước, van giới hạn lưu lượng ở mức tối đa đã cài đặt trước, bất kể áp suất thượng lưu hoặc mực nước trong bể thay đổi, đồng thời bảo vệ van khỏi hư hại do hiện tượng xâm thực.
