What Are Deluge Valves What Are

Deluge valves are critical components in fire protection systems, engineered for rapid response when seconds matter. These quick opening control valves deliver large capacity of water or foam through open nozzles to overcome fire hazards instantly. Under normal conditions, they remain closed, but when triggered by a control panel they open and controlling flow to the protected area.

BERMAD’s deluge valves are designed for unobstructed flow, high reliability, and long service life, even under the most demanding conditions. They provide peace of mind in high-risk environments where performance cannot be compromised.

How Do Deluge Valves Work?

A deluge valve remains closed under normal conditions and opens when it receives a release signal from the detection system in use. Once activated, the valve opens fully, allowing water or foam to flow through the piping and out of the open nozzles.

Activation methods include:

  • Electric solenoid valve
  • Hydraulic pilot line with fusible plug
  • Pneumatic pilot line with fusible plug
  • Manual release

An integrated pressure-control pilot can be used to regulate downstream pressure, ensuring precise flow to the system nozzles for optimal fire protection performance.

Types of Deluge Valves

Deluge systems vary by the method of actuation and reset type. Typical options include:

  • Deluge Valve with Local Reset – the Deluge Valve remains open until it is reset locally
  • Deluge Valve with Remote Reset – the Deluge Valve remains open until it is reset remotely
  • Deluge Valve with On-Off Operation – for on/off operation from remote location
  • Pressure-Control Deluge Valve combination – reduce high / unstable supply pressure to a desired downstream setpoint

These categories align directly with the FP-400E and FP-400Y Series options offered on this page.

Deluge Valve Applications

Deluge valves are used where rapid, high-density water or foam solutions, discharge is essential, such as oil & gas facilities, petrochemical plants, power plants, and industrial processing areas. They protect equipment by controlling and extinguishing fire, cooling critical surfaces, and preventing structural damage. Whether paired with open spray nozzles, foam systems, or high-capacity monitors, BERMAD Deluge valves deliver dependable performance under harsh conditions.

Choosing the Right Deluge Valve

Selecting the right valve depends on your detection method, water supply pressure, and operational requirements.

  • Electric Operation? Models like the 400Y/400E-2M, 3UM, 2MC or 3DC – provide reliable solenoid-activated control.
  • Pneumatic pilot Line systems? The 400Y/400E-4M, 4D or 4DC respond to pilot line pressure drop and open until reset.
  • Electro-Pneumatic systems? The 400Y/400E-6M, 6D or 6DC respond to pilot line pressure drop or solenoid activated and open until reset.
  • Manual operation? The 400Y/400E-1D and 1DC provide straightforward, robust manual activation.
